We are excited to announce that we’ll have a table in the letterpress marketplace for the 2011 Seattle Wayzgoose! We’ll be in good company with 20+ vendors, offering their best letterpress goodies for perusal and purchase.
Wayzgoose is a tradition in the printing world that goes back to the days of working by candlelight. Each year on or around St. Bartholomew’s Day (the 24th of August), a wayzgoose would be given by the master printer to mark the end of summer and the start of the darker winter season of working by candlelight.

You’re invited to join us at the School of Visual Concepts for the 10th annual festival of all things letterpress, the age-old printing technique of impressing words on paper. While a decade of Wayzgoose fun is definitely something worth celebrating, so is the School of Visual Concepts’ 40th birthday. Since 1971, SVC has been helping people learn the art and craft of design, copywriting, and for the last ten years, letterpress printing. So come join us for a grand old time that’s been 40 years in the making.
Here are the highlights of the grand event:
STEAMROLLER SMACKDOWN
The center stage event! Top artists and design firms hit the SVC parking lot to print oversized posters with the hefty help of a two-ton steamroller instead of a traditional printing press. We’ll auction off these giants of design (the posters, not the people) to benefit SVC’s letterpress programs.
MARKETPLACE
Letterpress printers from all over the Pacific Northwest will be on hand selling their gorgeous, handmade letterpress cards, books and ephemera.
EQUIPMENT SWAP
If you’re a letterpress printer, or thinking of becoming one, come check out the great deals on type, metal cuts, and equipment. Plenty of free advice will also be dispensed. Have things to sell? Contact us!
DEMONSTRATIONS
Want to try letterpress printing yourself? You can on SVC’s vintage iron handpress, as you crank out (literally) a handsome keepsake of your own.
FOOD & MUSIC
Enjoy delicious treats from food vendors and toe-tapping music from the Canote Brothers, keeping time to the steady beep of the steamroller.
